Car LED Message

I get a lot of compliments and everyone asks me where did you get that sign? I have it in my window but also bought a smaller one for the back of my SUV and I get alot of beeps. You can put whatever you want on the sign and it will light up for you what you want it to say. It was very handy when I needed help for a flat tire. Or to tell someone you we can't see you, turn your lights on. LOL!

I really want to figure out how to address these directly with my own controllers so I can use them as my own flexible screens for projects. That said, for their INTENDED purpose, they work well. They're pretty bright and the app ( I actually tried this one) is pretty functional. I like that you can set your own designs and patterns, etc.

I'm not convinced the silicone used on this is much different from the silicone used on LED strips that likes to harden and yellow over time, but that remains to be seen. It does a good job of sticking to the inside of your window though.

It would have been AWESOME if it included a button panel that you could set to certain effects/patterns/responses so that you didn't need to use your phone; which is one of the reasons why I want to be able to address it directly.

It seems so close to a HUB75 panel, but the connection points are far different. And of course there's no documentation out there, so, meh.

The sign itself is awesome. It's very bright, flexible, comes with a cord long enough to plug it in anywhere and includes a car adapter.

The app, though, is pretty limiting. It's called CoolLED1248 and while you can download it to your phone, you won't be able to actually git into it without a sign linked to it. It does give you the option to set text and how it scrolls like those signs that were everywhere during the ea90's and early 2000's. It also comes with a very limited selection of pre-made art/signs statick and sort of animated.

The issue comes when wanting to do your own stuff. Other than just text in their generic font, you're in for a chore. It gives you a screen where you can edit with a rudimentary brush to add color. There is no "undo" though so be prepared to paint color and then go back with the eraser frequently since editing on your phone without zooming way in is really, really challenging.

Animation is even worse because it's just a series of blank screens. You can duplicate from one to the next to erase and draw in your animation but again, it's pretty limited.

It does allow you to export and import files which gave me hope but they're ".jt" files that it doesn't appear can be opened in any desktop program and is strictly a way to move something from one copy of the app to another.
